Week 30: March 27- March 31

Hello Families,

Hope you are enjoying this rainy day. I am grateful for the wildflowers and that the rivers and lakes will offer great kayaking opportunities this summer!

Spanish 2: This week in class students have been working on nationalities in Spanish and on using conocer and saber (which both mean to know) in their writing. Students were using higher order thinking skills when justifying which verb to use and this generated some great discussion about the qualifiers for each situation. Way to go students! I am very proud of you. Next week students will begin a new chapter for which they will create a Quizlet and a word wall. The objectives for the chapter include describing childhood experiences, expressing personal reactions and discussing family relationships. The students will begin to use the imperfect tense which is another form of the past tense.

Spanish 1: This week in Spanish 1 students learned to use present tense verbs with irregular yo forms. They took notes, watched a video and completed whiteboard practice with sentences on this concept. They also learned about El Zócalo: centro de México which is the central plaza in Mexico City and was built over the old Spanish capital and older aztec capital. Students will be taking a test over the current chapter tomorrow. Next week we will begin a new unit focusing on Puerto Rico, create a new word wall for the new chapter, study a new Quizlet and learn how Easter is celebrated in Latino countries.

ASL 1: This week in class students completed a bell work review of lessons 1-25 and completed lesson 26. Many of the students have signed this lesson early and received extra credit. As Easter is coming up, students also watched an ASL story called The Most Wonderful Egg in the World. The story was presented by the Statewide Outreach Center at Texas School for the Deaf and can be found on YouTube. Students are recognizing many of the signs in children’s stories now because our curriculum (ASL University) teaches words based on frequency of usage. Next week students will learn signs related to Easter and be signing sentences related to the same. I have posted a link to the story for your entertainment should you like to watch it.

ASL 2: This week in class students completed country sentences and lesson 56. It is always fun to see the sentences that they come up with. There are some future writers in my midst. Some students said that they recognized about 85% of the signs in the story! Wow! Next week students will review signs related to Easter and be creating stories of their own using the Easter signs.

Have a great day tomorrow and a great weekend!
