Week 6: August 29- September 2

In ASL I, ASL II, Spanish I, Spanish II

Hello Families,

We have just about completed six weeks of school and students are falling into a rhythm.

Spanish 1: This week in class students studied their Quizlet and completed one Duolingo assignment. They also took notes on Spanish Subject Pronouns and learned a song to help them remember them in Spanish. The song was to the tune of  a song from the Sound of Music. Memorizing the subject pronouns in Spanish is the foundation of being able to conjugate verbs. Don’t be afraid to ask your child to sing it.

I’m hoping it gets stuck in their heads. We also learned how to conjugate the ser verb which means to be. There is also a catchy song for this. Next week we will learn the different uses of the ser verb including an acronym for its various uses. The acronym is DOCTOR. We use the ser verb for descriptions, occupation, characteristics, time, origin and relationships.

Spanish 2: This week in Spanish 2 we completed a Duolingo assignment and a Quizizz assignment on G0-yo verbs. Go-yo verbs are verbs that change in the present tense in the yo form. Some of the Go-yo verbs are tengo, mantengo, prevengo, digo, hago, traigo and salgo. Students practiced using these in sentences. They also completed some whiteboard practice in preparation for their test tomorrow. Next week students will create a Quizlet for their new chapter and we will begin work on stem changing verbs.

ASL 1: This week in ASL 1 students practiced receptive fingerspelling, the lesson 4 story and Lesson 5 in ASL University. Next week students will complete a review of chapters 1-5 and complete Lesson 6.

ASL 2: This week in ASL 2 students completed country sentences 21-25 for the countries of Bolivia, Bosnia, Botswana, Brazil and Brunei. They also completed Lesson 35 which had a lot of words used in sports. Next week students will create country sentences for the following countries:

  • Bulgaria
  • Burkina Faso
  • Burundi
  • Cabo Verde
  • Cambodia

They will also complete Lesson 36.

Have a great weekend everyone!
