Week 27 & 28: February 8-19
Hello Parents and Students,
I hope all is well with you and your families. I have so much news to share! My apologies for not getting a newsletter out last week. The week got ahead of me. I want to start out with a hearty thank you to all of the students, staff, and administration of San Tan Charter School for making Valentine’s Day so special for teachers! I felt the love! In the morning we were treated to a breakfast of bagels with cream cheese, croissants, yogurt, fresh fruit and coffee. We were also treated to an amazing chocolate tray later in the day. And if that wasn’t enough, the students surprised us by lining up across from each other and high fiving us and applauding as we danced through the gauntlet with our San Tan Super Hero capes! I am so fortunate to work at San Tan. It is truly the best small charter school in the East Valley in my humble opinion!
ASL 1: Last week we studied Lesson 19 which included adverbs such as afraid, bored, embarrassed, friendly, happy, jealous, lonely, nervous, proud, silly, etc. This week students studied Lesson 20 and words that had to do with describing physical characteristics such as thin, tall, curly hair, straight hair, long hair, fat, pretty, strong, weak, ugly, skinny, etc. Students should have finished signing the Practice Sheets for these stories today in class. I am so proud of how students are doing. They are signing with fluency and have learned approximately 500 new signs since the beginning of the year!
ASL 2: This has been an amazing journey for ASL 2 students. Congratulations to Aggie Caldito who has already finished signing 30 stories or practice sheet sets! Aggie’s personal goal is to finish ASL Levels 1-4 of ASL University by the end of the year! Let’s wish her well as she pursues her goal. I applaud all of my ASL 2 students for being self motivated and self -starters. In addition to all of the words they learned last year they have increased their vocabulary by more than 500-600 signs already! Wow!
Spanish 2: Last week we wrapped up the chapter we had been working on and completed an exam to test our knowledge. We also made tostones (fried plantains) in Mr. Richardson’s culinary room. Thanks Chef for teaching us how to do this and for allowing us to partake in this delicious specialty of the house in Costa Rica and other Spanish speaking countries! This week we began learning new vocabulary by creating a quizlet for the new chapter, created a new word wall and played Quizlet Live today in the classroom. I’m proud of your teamwork Spanish 2 students!
Spanish 1: Last week in Spanish 1 we finished a chapter in the textbook and completed an exam to test our knowledge. Students also finished presenting their La Gente Famosa slideshow where they chose three famous people and described them with personality and physical traits, likes and dislikes. It was fun to see which people each student chose and I am proud of all of their efforts in reading Spanish and in trying to form grammatically correct sentences. This week we began to create a new word wall, created a new Quizlet. Students studied in their flashcards on Quizlet as well as the Learn portion and some students played Gravity or Match within their Quizlet. Today we played Quizlet Live. The first week of a new chapter we work to build vocabulary. Next week we will take notes in our interactive notebooks and learn grammar concepts.
German and Japanese: Students are doing a great job meeting their time requirements and some are even exceeding them. I think I am beginning to understand some German! LOL! Have a great weekend everyone!
