Week 23: January 22-26
Hello Families. I hope you are all well and have been enjoying the rainy, cloudy weather. One is never to old to play in the rain or stomp in puddles and we saw lots of students doing just that this week. Back when I was teaching elementary school, these were perfect days for combining boat building with mathematics! Students loved these hands on and minds on challenges. Making piñatas is also a great cross curricular activity which we will be doing in April.
ASL 1: This week in class students have been working on Lesson 16 and should be signing it no later than Friday. Whenever a student signs the lesson earlier in the week they receive extra credit. Students also wrote five sentences about the things they enjoy doing on a rainy day. They will be signing those tomorrow in class. Next week students will complete Lesson 17.
ASL 2: This week students completed Country Sentences 76-80 and Lesson 48. Next week they will complete Country Sentences 81-85 and Lesson 49.
Spanish 1: This week students completed work on conjugating present tense verbs that end in -er and -ir. They also participated in a Live Quizizz presentation on the same concepts to support their learning. Quizizz has a wheel feature that allows me to call on students randomly and raises the level of engagement in the presentation. The students had fun with this “game show” format in class and seem to be feeling more confident in their ability to identify the steps in conjugating verbs in Spanish. Next week we will be working on possessives to talk about who things belong to and we will complete albert.io and work on more vocabulary building exercises for the current chapter.
Spanish 2: This week in class students have been working on conjugating verbs in the preterit (past tense). They have learned to conjugate both regular and irregular verbs and verbs with orthographic changes in the preterit. They also completed a Quizlet Checkpoint to assess where they are as a class on the current vocabulary. Students should be studying their Quizlet not only in class, but outside of class as well for maximum retention of the new words. Next week we will be reviewing and reinforcing skills for the preterit, and working on reflexive verbs which are used to talk about ones daily habits.
Have a great rest of the week. Thank you parents for all that you do at home to support your child’s learning. We are a team and I couldn’t do it without your help.
