Week 22: January 18-21

In ASL I, ASL II, Spanish I, Spanish II

Hello Families,

I hope this post finds you all well.

ASL 2: This week in ASL 2 students had to prepare and sign sentences with points of interest for the countries of Russia, Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania and Belarus. They also had to complete lesson 48 which contained many review words. Next week students will sign 5 more country sentences and lesson 49.

ASL 1: This week in class students had receptive fingerspelling practice and completed lesson 18. Next week they will complete lesson 19.

Spanish 1 & 2: This week in class students read 3 more articles. Two articles were about Día de Candelaria and the other was about Candlemas. Students also took notes on all of the articles and will be allowed to use the notes on the quiz at the end of the unit. We also watched a video in Spanish on how to make masa for tamales. We are working cooperatively with Mr. Ramos in the culinary department next week to make tamales. The students are excited for this opportunity to share in this cultural practice! Many of them have never tasted tamales, so this will be a new experience for them. Did you know that there are between 350-5000 different varieties of tamales? We are short of steamer pots for steaming the tamales, so if you have one that you are willing to lend out, we would love your help and will make sure that it gets back to you. We are looking for larger pots if you have them. We will be steaming them sometime between February 2nd and February 7th. More to come on this next week.

Have a great weekend folks!
