Week 21: January 8-12
Hello Families. Last week students were assigned a New Year’s Goals assignment in which they had to list ten goals that they had for the New Year and they had to identify the steps that they would take to achieve those goals. This week as a follow-up to that assignment and in an effort to start the year off strong, we have been listening to a Growth Mindset Podcast created by a Stanford University Professor. The students are learning how their own internal dialogue and external dialogue around them can affect their mindset and how they can create a new narrative that is based in brain research.
ASL 1: This week in class students have been working on Lesson 14. They have also been taking notes on a Growth Mindset Podcast for bellwork. Next week students will be working on Lesson 15.
ASL 2: This week in class students completed Country Sentences 66-70 and Lesson 46. Many students have been getting creative in the structures of their sentences and are including facts about each country. This is a great assignment for cross curricular instruction, in that it stretches their writing, geography, history, cultural and signing skills.
Spanish 1: This week in class we have been working on conjugating -ar verbs in the present tense. Unlike in English, when a verb is conjugated correctly, it carries the meaning of the subject pronoun with it. Thus, we only need subject pronouns in Spanish for clarification purposes. Students also completed Duolingo and completed some reassigned work in albert.io. Next week students will do some more word work with present tense -ar verbs, receive new vocabulary, and will do some whiteboarding practice.
Spanish 2: This week in class students have been working on conjugating verbs in the preterit tense and applying them in more complex sentences. They have also learned the conditions and parameters for using the preterit tense versus the imperfect tense. Students also completed work in Duolingo and albert.io this week. Next week students will be working on orthographic changes in the preterit tense, more albert.io and more Duolingo. They will also begin a new vocabulary set.
Have a great three day weekend!
