Week 21: January 10-14

In ASL I, ASL II, Spanish I, Spanish II

Hello Families,

We have been quite busy in all of our classes even though we have had a lot of students out ill. Parents, just a quick reminder to please call the office if your child is ill so that the absence can be excused and your child will be able to make up the work. I have been reminding students that if they feel ill to please not come in to school, so as not to spread germs.

ASL 2: This week in ASL 2 students studied Lesson 47 and completed five country sentences with points of interest for Canada, Greenland, Norway, Sweden and Finland. Next week students will work on new country sentences and Lesson 48.

ASL 1: This week in ASL 1 students wrote 5 sentences about their favorite foods and then signed them. They also completed Lesson 17 which had a lot of food signs in it. Next week we will work on Lesson 18.

Spanish 2: This week in Spanish 2 we took notes on the jugar verb with relation to sports. When using jugar with sports, we usually conjugate it and use “al”, for example “juego al baloncesto” which means “I play basketball.” We also read about el Día de Candelaria which is celebrated around the world on February 2nd and is also known as Candelemas. Students were required to look for two tamale recipes today, one sweet, and the other savory. Did you know that there are between 350-5000 varieties of tamales? Next week we will be making tamales in conjuction with the culinary classes to prepare for Día de Candelaria. We will also be making posters about this special day and make atole and arroz con gandules. Special thanks to our culinary teacher Mr. Ramos, who is helping to make all of this happen. He is amazing!
