Week 20: January 3-5

In ASL I, ASL II, Spanish I, Spanish II

Happy New Year Families! I hope you had a marvelous break together and feel refreshed going into the New Year. I had the best Christmas ever, as my whole immediate family was able to get together over Christmas! I have five grandchildren and found out that I have a sixth one on the way, that is due in July.

ASL 1: This week students wrote two paragraphs about what they did over the winter break. They had to select ten words that they did not know how to sign, from the paragraphs that they wrote, and had to look them up and learn how to sign them. Then I went around the room as they were ready and they had the opportunity to show me their new words. It has been great to see them develop confidence in their ability to sign! Next week students will be working on Lesson 14 and complete some receptive practice.

ASL 2: This week in class students are learning signs that have to do with the New Years and they are writing New Year’s resolutions that they will be signing by tomorrow. I asked them to focus on things that will improve their own lives, improve the lives of others, or try things that they have never tried before. I shared some of my goals and resolutions and am looking forward to hearing theirs. Next week students will be signing Country Sentences and Lesson 46.

Spanish 1: This week in class students wrote two paragraphs about what they did over the Christmas break. They were asked to underline all of the verbs as that will be the focus of next weeks lessons. Students are also learning about El Día de Los Tres Reyes Magos (Three King’s Day) which is celebrated on January 6th in many Spanish speaking countries with parades, children writing letters to the Three Kings and a Rosca de Reyes. Next week students will be working on conjugating verbs ending in -ar, -er, and -ir in the present tense.

Spanish 2: This week in class students wrote two paragraphs about what they did over the Christmas break. They were asked to underline all of the verbs in their paragraphs and will be learning how to conjugate those verbs in the past tense. Then they will be translating their paragraphs into Spanish to the best of their ability. Next week we will do some more work on the preterit tense in Spanish and we will be learning the conditions for its use.

What amazing things are you  going to do in 2024? Will you create a plan to get there? Will you create a vision board? Whatever you do, I am wishing you success! Be present, as that is the best present that you can give everyone around you!
