Week 20: December 7-11

In ASL I, ASL II, Spanish I, Spanish II

Hello Everyone,

My how time flies! I can’t believe there is only one week left until the end of the semester. Finals for each class will be on Monday and Tuesday, so please encourage your student to study over the weekend.  I have reminded all students this week, several times, to check Infinite Campus and their Google Classroom for any missing assignments and they have had  the opportunity to turn in any missing work so they can get the best grades possible.

ASL 1: This week we focused our efforts on Lesson 13 and students had to sign the story that goes with the vocabulary and also finish the practice quiz by Friday, 12-11-20. Here is the story that they had to sign:

I DEAF-SCHOOL O-G-D-E-N U-T-A-H, GRADUATE 1984. NOW COLLEGE C-S-U-N. I LIKE COLLEGE, BUT HARD. HIGH-SCHOOL EASY. NOW MUST READ ARTICLE. WRITE RESEARCH PAPER. TEACHER SQUARE-(white board) WRITE-(on the white board) MUST PUT-DOWN. INTERPRETER, MUST WATCH-(intense). WHY? TEST HARD.

I am so proud of these students! They have done an amazing job this semester. Next week, their final will draw on all of the vocabulary we have learned so far and they will have to sign 5 sentences from a practice sheet that is randomly drawn. We have practiced these many times in class, but I encourage them to study over the weekend.

ASL 2: Students practiced for the final on Monday and Tuesday. They too will be signing a randomly drawn practice sheet with five sentences for their final.

Spanish 2: The Spanish 2 class has completed all of the work for Unidad 1 Etapa 1 in addition to 4 Duolingo lessons on travel. Students learned to conjugate both regular and irregular verbs in the preterite and have had practice talking about travel in the past. They have also completed 5 listening activities this week. Their final will be on Monday and Tuesday and they will be answering 50 questions on a Google Form each day. The questions will be based on vocabulary, grammar, and culture that we have learned about so far. Please have them review textbook pages 1-51 for the final.

Spanish 1: Students in my Spanish 1 classes have begun presenting their slideshows about themselves. I am very proud of each student that has presented thus far. They have been very courageous! These presentations count as their final and we will be finishing them up next week on Monday and Tuesday (and Wednesday if necessary).

German 2 and Japanese 2: These students had only a 20 min. per day requirement to meet this week. The rest of the time they have been preparing a slideshow about themselves which they will present on Monday and Tuesday as their final. They will be evaluated by their peers on this assignment and scores will be averaged. This gives them a unique speaking and listening opportunity.

I just wanted to tell each parent how much I appreciate you helping your child to be successful in their educational endeavors. I enjoy teaching each and everyone of them!
