Week 19: December 13-17

In ASL I, ASL II, Spanish I, Spanish II

¡Feliz Navidad Familias!

ASL 1: This week in ASL 1 we took our finals and then began to work on signing Christmas Carols. Students were allowed to choose their group members and each group signed a Christmas Carol of their choice. All students did a marvelous job and expressed how much fun they had. Each group signed a different Christmas Carol and had the choice of just signing it to me, or signing it in front of the class. Please feel free to ask your student to sign the song for you. I told them that this really impresses the relatives at holiday gatherings!

ASL 2: This week students signed their finals on Monday and Tuesday. I’m very proud of their hard work and commitment. It has been fun to watch them progress over the past year and a half! On Wednesday and Thursday of this week students learned how to sign Christmas Carols. Each individual or group had to sign a song for me by the end of the period. It was fun to watch!

Spanish 1 & 2: Students completed their finals on Monday and Tuesday of this week. On Wednesday and Thursday they learned about some Christmas vocabulary in Spanish and learned about Las Posadas. Las posadas is a Mexican tradition that is a reenactment of Mary and Joseph looking for lodging before baby Jesus was born. La Posada Carol is sung during the procession, over the course of nine days, beginning on the 16th of December and ending the the 24th (La Nochebuena). Students learned about the foods that are eaten and the traditional ponche that is made at this time. Las Posadas is also celebrated with sparklers, fireworks, and of course a piñata. When we return to school Spanish 1 will review adjectives and work on grammar concepts for the new chapter. Spanish 2 students will begin learning about the preterite (past tense).

Wishing you all a safe and wonderful holiday! Thank you for sharing your precious children with me. They bring me so much joy!
