Week 10: October 10-14

In ASL I, ASL II, Spanish I, Spanish II

Welcome back students and families! I hope your break was refreshing and amazing! I had a great time meeting my adorable new grandson in a Google Meet, did some biking and swimming and spent some time in Pinetop with my daughters and their families. Grandkids are the best!

Spanish 2: This week in Spanish 2 we have been practicing Salsa dancing with Jutem McCollum and have also been practicing our song Dos Oruguitas for the Electives Showcase on Saturday, October 29th. We have also been reviewing stem changing and irregular verbs and have completed a Quizizz and a Duolingo Asssignment. Next week we will be learning Vivir Mi Vida by Marc Anthony for the Showcase and will be painting our ceramic skulls for the photo booth which will be designed with the theme of Día de los Muertos. We will also be completing some reading about this time honored, Spanish tradition of Día de los Muertos which honors the ancestors who have come before us.

ASL 1: This week in ASL 1 students should have finished signing Lesson 8 if it was missing. Students also learned the vocabulary for lesson 9 and are in the process of learning to sign the song Remember Me for the Electives Showcase on Saturday, October 29th. Students have been given a copy of the lyrics on paper and they are also posted in the Google Classroom, along with the arrangement. Next week students will sign Lesson 9 for credit by the date listed in Google Classroom, or earlier if they are ready.

Spanish 1: This week in Spanish 1 students learned a new song called ¿Cómo eres tú? and practiced the song ¿De dónde es? Both songs will be performed for the Electives Showcase on Saturday, October 29th. Some of the 6th Hour Spanish 1 students will also be dancing a Salsa dance in the Showcase and have been practicing that as well. They have the honor of being instructed by a world renowned professional ballroom dancer named Jutem McCollum who happens to be the parent of one of our Spanish 2 students. Students have also completed lessons on Spanish Definite and Indefinite Articles this week. Next week students will learn how to describe others in Spanish and the clothing that they wear. They will also be learning about Día de los Muertos and will create Alibrijes in the couple of weeks for  the Electives Showcase photo booth. They will also create tissue paper marigolds.

ASL 2: This week in class students practiced Remember Me for the Electives Showcase on Saturday, October 29th. They have also been working on Lesson 39. Next week they will continue song practice and will work on Lesson 40 and Country Sentences.

Have a great week everyone!
