Week 3: August 7-11

In ASL I, ASL II, Spanish I, Spanish II

Hello Families. I hope this message finds you all well. As we finish week 3 of our classes I want to say thank you for all that you are doing to support your child’s education at home. Many students have been very responsible in turning in all of their assignments on time and we need to encourage those good habits. If you have not yet signed up for the Parent Portal in Infinite Campus please make sure to do so as soon as possible, as it gives you alerts to missing assignments, low grades and other important information.

On Saturday, October 21st we are pleased to announce our Electives Showcase! This is an evening event that is listed in the syllabus for each electives class. Students in the Spanish classes will be singing, dancing and setting up a photo booth. ASL students will be signing some songs. and the students in dance, yoga and choir will also be performing. Miss Tomasek’s students will be displaying their amazing artwork and Mr. Ramos will be leading his advanced culinary and bakery students in providing world class hors d’ oeuvres! This is a marvelous opportunity to witness first hand what your child is learning in the classroom and see the progress that they are making this year. Preparation and learning for the Electives Showcase is tied to the curriculum being taught in class and to the World Language Standards. As this is performance based students are required to attend. Again, think Family Fun Night! The fun will begin at 5:00 pm with hors d’ oeuvres and interactive entertainment (statuettes, photo booth, mariachi music, small groups etc.) and then the program will begin at 6 p.m.

Spanish 1: This week in class students took notes on numbers, learned a number song and practiced numbers 1-60. They also learned some common Spanish names and how to introduce themselves to other people and how to take leave. For bellwork this week students also completed some Duolingo practice and practiced the chapter vocabulary on Quizlet. Today students learned the locations of Spanish speaking countries and added a map of them to their notebooks. I encourage students to stay organized in their notetaking by being thorough and adding a table of contents to their notebooks when they set them up. Tomorrow we will finish up our maps and play Quizlet Live. Next week students will learn some useful phrases for the classroom, review the chapter and take a chapter exam.

Spanish 2: This week in class students completed some Duolingo, studied their vocabulary on Quizlet and played Taco Tuesday (a vocabulary game). They also took notes and learned about Direct Object Pronouns in Spanish. Students will complete a Quizizz on Direct Object Pronouns tomorrow and play Quizlet Live. Next week students will be working on Direct Object Pronoun Task cards and will learn the Present Progressive in Spanish.

ASL 1: This week in class students practiced more fingerspelling and receptive fingerspelling. They also began signing Lesson 1 for me and many students earned extra credit by signing the lesson early. I am so proud of their progress already! Next week students will be completing a written assignment called ASL: A Brief History and will also be working on Lesson 2.

ASL 2: This week in class students completed country sentences 6-10 and Lesson 32. Next week students will complete country sentences 11-15 and Lesson 33.

Have a great day and thank you for entrusting me with your wonderful children!
