Week 24: January 30- February 3

In ASL I, ASL II, Spanish I, Spanish II

Hello Families. This has been an amazing week here at San Tan Charter School! I am so proud of all the students that participated in the Science Fair and the STEM Fest. I was awed by the high quality work of the students, so way to go everyone!

Spanish 2: This week in class, students reinforced their skills in using direct object pronouns in Spanish. Direct object pronouns in a sentence receive the action of the verb and answer the question whom or what. In Spanish the direct object pronouns are me, te, lo, la, nos, os, los and las. They can be placed before a conjugated verb, or after an infinitive. Direct object pronouns help us to simplify the answers to questions such as “Do you have the books?” by answering with “Yes, I have them.” Students completed whiteboarding, a packet and are currently working on task cards which will be due next week. Next week students will also test over the current chapter and work on their individualized Duolingo path.

Spanish 1: This week in class students learned to tell time in Spanish. Time in Spanish is much more flexible than in English. This is a challenging concept for students because when telling the time after the thirty minute mark, the minutes are subtracted from the time, rather than added. For example 2:40 pm can be stated, “Son las dos y cuarenta” or “Son las tres menos (minus) veinte.” We have taken notes on this in class, worked with analog clocks, completed a packet and a Quizziz to reinforce the concept. We will continue to work on telling time next week and also complete some work on the estar verb which means “to be.”

ASL 1: This week in class students completed reviews of Lessons 1-19, Stories 1-15, and Lesson 20. Lesson 20 was full of signs that have to do with a person’s appearance. Words such as tall, short, fat, skinny, curly hair, short hair, long hair, etc. were included. Next week students will complete a written assignment on deaf culture and Lesson 21.

ASL 2: This week in class students completed Country Sentences and Lesson 50. Lesson 50 was about paying for different items and knowing their value. Next week students will complete a written assignment on deaf culture, more country sentences and Lesson 51.

Have a fabulous weekend and thank you for all of the help and encouragement you give to your children on their projects.
