Week 18: December 6-10
Hello Families!
I hope this post finds you all well and happy. I have enjoyed watching all of the holiday lights go up since Thanksgiving and even set up a small Christmas display myself. I like to go walking in my neighborhood in the evening, with a cup of hot chocolate in hand to view the light displays. I am also looking forward to spending time with my family over the break.
As a reminder, all missing work is due by no later than Friday of this week and finals will be on Monday and Tuesday for all classes.
ASL 1: This week in class we focused on Lesson 15 and had fingerspelling practice of words related to Christmas. I’ve also posted some Christmas signing vocabulary in the Google Classroom for students to start familiarizing themselves with. Next week for the final students will pull three random practice sheets from a pile and will have to sign one of them for their final. They can review by going into previous lessons on ASL University. The practice sheets will be from Lessons 1-15. We will also learn to sign some Christmas songs next week.
ASL 2: This week in class students wrote and signed sentences for the countries of Colombia, Ecuador, Peru, Bolivia, and Paraguay and points of interest for each. Each country has a different sign which they were required to learn. I always ask students which point of interest they would like to see the most, in hopes of inspiring them to be world travelers. Students also completed lesson 45 this week. Next week they will complete their final by drawing 6 random practice sheets from lessons 20-45 and signing 2 of them. We will also be signing Christmas songs and Christmas stories.
Spanish 1: This week in Spanish 1 students took a test over their last chapter and read and learned about Tejana music. They also created a new quizlet for the next chapter. The next chapter focuses on vocabulary about family members, expressing possession, asking and telling ages, giving dates, talking about birthdays and learning other words and phrases. Next week we will have our final which will consist of questions from all of the chapters covered thus far. It will include both grammar and vocabulary questions and students can study by reviewing their textbook pages in the google classroom. We will also learn some Christmas vocabulary next week.
Spanish 2: This week in Spanish 2 students created a word wall for their new words, practiced them on their Quizlet, completed a Duolingo assignment and played Buque de Guerra (Battleship). Students had to conjugate 10 different verbs correctly with their respective pronouns to play Buque de Guerra. This is a great way to review for their final. Another way that students can review is to look at the textbook pages that are posted in the Google Classroom. Our finals will be on Monday and Tuesday of next week. On Wednesday, Thursday and Friday students will be learning words and phrases related to Christmas.
Have a great weekend everyone!
