Week 31: March 17-19

In ASL I, ASL II, Spanish I, Spanish II

Welcome back Parents and Students!

I hope everyone is feeling rejuvenated after the break. I saw a lot of smiles today and students seem to be happy to be back with their friends. It was very nice to meet many of the students who were online in person for the first time!

ASL1: This week we worked on Lesson 23. We learned words like Freshman, Sophmore, Junior, Senior, English, dorm, cafeteria and students began signing the practice sheets for the lesson. Some of the sentences had them using math terms such as “Twelve divide six equals what?” So students had to recall numbers learned previously. Many students are now able to sign the practice sheets by the third day of the lesson! Wow!

ASL2: I am encouraging each student to sign two lessons each week. We are in the last quarter now, so it is time to show their mastery at their craft!

Spanish 2: This week we worked on the nationalities of people from other countries.  A male from Guatemala would be called Guatamalteco. El es Guatamalteco (He is Guatamalan). A female from Guatemala would be called Guatamalteca. Ella es Guatamateca (She is Guatamalan). We learned nationalities from Spanish speaking countries and other countries as well. This week we also worked on the concept of being well informed ie. El reportero está bien informado sobre las noticias internacionales (The reporter is well informed about international news). The estar verb in each sentence must be conjugated and gender and number must match with how we use the word informed.

Spanish 1: This week we did two short assignments in Duolingo and we took notes on the tener verb. Tener means “to have” and can be used to express hair color, eye color, age and things that a person has. Students will take a Quizizz next week on this and will be given multiple attempts to master the use of the tener verb. We also played Quizlet Live today (different than Quizizz) to practice our vocabulary.

German and Japanese: Wow! I have students that have reached Level 3 and 4 of Rosetta Stone. Keep up the great work students! I am proud of you all!

A quick reminder to parents that online students must have their cameras on at all times during class or they will be marked absent. This helps to keep them engaged and interacting with me, the material and the other students in class. It also keeps them from napping on the job! LOL!

Have a great weekend!
